This presentation by Dr. Calvin was made at the University of Victoria BC on June 18th. The event was sponsored by the BC Chapter of the Sierra Club of Canada. Dr. Calvin is introduced by Dr. Colin Campbell, Science Advisor to the Sierra Club of BC. At the end of the five minute introduction, click [...]

Global Warming Solutions for Governments

To stop Global Warming, we must close down all coal-fired power plants, end all fossil fuel subsidies and end all corporate campaign financing.

Climate Change Challenge: Is Clean Coal a Solution?

CCS is a very expensive distraction, designed to make coal look good, but in reality taking scarce taxpayers’ dollars away from solutions that can make a real difference. Governments should place an immediate ban on new non-CCS coal-fired projects, as New Zealand and British Columbia have done, and set a date by which power companies will be required to stop buying coal-fired power, as California has done.

Article on carbon capture and storage misguided

CCS should never be considered a bandaid or quick fix. It should only be attempted in conjunction with a global effort to reduce GHG emissions to zero. It will be difficult enough to sequester what we already have. If we can’t bring atmospheric carbon dioxide down to what is believed to be the safe level of 350 parts per million or less, we won’t have a planet we can live on.

Hansen et al: We must phase-out coal emissions by 2030 and stabilize at or below 350 ppm

Clean coal has been a persistent theme throughout the US election, with presidential candidates on both sides of the political ledger touting [...]

Phase out coal and burn trees instead, urges leading scientist

Current targets on emissions are ‘a recipe for global disaster, not salvation’ By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor Sunday, 14 September 2008 www.Independent.co.uk The public are ahead of the game on climate change Humanity must urgently embark on a massive programme to power civilisation from wood to stave off catastrophic climate change, one of the world’s [...]

ARCTIC ICE CRISIS: WHY WE MUST LOWER ATMOSPHERIC CO2

For the many of us who have been rightly concerned for the fate of our Polar Ice Cap, there is encouraging news from NASA scientist Dr. James E. Hansen. He gives us hope that we can refreeze the polar ice. Dr. Hansen, who prefers to be called Jim Hansen, has been referred to as the [...]
